Ebbtide Gameplay Overview: Operations Map and Battlefield
Ebbtide gameplay on Steam: seamless operations map to 3D battlefield, 15 LA districts, direct control with TAB, 3D pixel art. Official description summarized.
Ebbtide, the zombie survival RTS by ProjectAlive, is built around one war map where strategic orders and street-level fighting connect. The Steam “About This Game” text is the main source below; developer posts add rendering notes and LA scope. Anything not in those sources stays not announced as of 2026-10-22.
Release timing lives on Ebbtide release date. PC and Mac requirements are on system requirements. Short answers sit in the FAQ.
What type of game is Ebbtide?
The official description calls Ebbtide a real-time zombie survival strategy game. You command TF-1 “Ark”, described as humanity’s last carrier task force. The opening campaign framing starts in Los Angeles, from the Hollywood Hills to the Port of LA. That scope is story geography, not a promise of every LA neighborhood on day one; the developer wrote that the operations map covers part of the metro (“Sorry, Anaheim”).
The map is the battlefield
Steam’s wording stresses that the operations map is the battlefield. You can scroll into a street and the view becomes a real-time 3D fight without a loading screen. When you scroll away, combat continues. There are no standalone missions and no hidden auto-resolve that throws away results.
Consequences persist on the map: each soldier lost, zombie killed, or building destroyed feeds back to the shared war state. Deeper district rules and the fifteen-zone model are expanded on operations map and districts.

Command a city under siege
On the operations layer you can pause or run at up to 4x speed. Fifteen administrative districts around LA can slide from Hold to Crisis to Lost. The store text says you cannot save everyone and asks you to decide who to pull out first.
Forces named in the official copy include National Guard, LAPD, and LA County Sheriff units you can order to hold, delay, or withdraw, plus Marines from Camp Pendleton. You can send truck and helicopter convoys to move supplies, troops, or refugees, rescue cut-off units, and extract survivors.
Visibility matters: only hordes inside your line of sight appear on the map, with warnings before attacks so you can reroute, retreat, or call fire support. Logistics and convoy risk are detailed on supply and logistics and FOB building. The Nexus hive mind behavior is on Nexus zombie hive mind.
Command your forces and take direct control
Steam lists combined arms play: set squad formations and combat stances, then command tanks, Bradleys, LAVs, Humvees, Apache and Viper attack helicopters, and Black Hawk insertions by fast-rope or rooftop landing. Press TAB to directly control a soldier, tank, or helicopter when you want hands-on action.
Unit-focused pages break out helicopters, ground forces and vehicles, and fire support and naval assets. Ammo, fuel, and weapon stats are not announced as numeric tables as of 2026-10-22.

World campaign and the Ark
After the LA layer, Steam describes a world campaign where people, units, gear, and supplies brought to the Port of LA seed your starting force aboard the Ark. You choose regions to aid, bring carrier strike group weapons into range, resupply at friendly ports, rescue specialists, expand the fleet, and hunt hidden Nexus command nodes. Chapter counts and campaign length are not announced as of 2026-10-22; see world campaign and the Ark.
Art direction and development footage
The store page highlights 3D pixel-art presentation. Developer posts in early October 2026 describe rendering updates: 1px outlines, edge highlights, clearer unit silhouettes in hordes, stable pixel blocks while the camera moves, and 2x zoom detail. Every official video carries an Early development footage label in social posts; mechanics and visuals may change before launch.
